Anti-Racism Commitment

At GRST we have the unique opportunity to learn about, connect empathetically to those harmed by, and acknowledge white privilege. Our patient and practitioner voices are full of knowledge, experience, pain, and hope and deserve to be heard. We commit to ensure that yours is heard. We believe that the hurt and anger felt by many people in relation to the disproportionate unjust treatment of people of color is real, prevalent, and a top priority to be addressed. We stand with you and promise to use our voices to speak out and act against oppression. We pledge through continued education to become more aware of our own individual microaggressions & implicit biases so that we may better serve our community.

It starts with each of us and we are unwaveringly committed to fight unjust biases and hate in all forms wherever we find it. Including in ourselves. This process involves learning AND unlearning many things and we are dedicated to championing this change.

LGBTQIA+

We welcome individuals and families of all kinds at GRST. You will find therapists who celebrate differences and empower clients to explore their identity without judgement. We believe, furthermore, that LGBTQIA individuals and families deserve to have mental health care that is not only compassionate but also competent. We utilize evidence-based approaches which respect the unique challenges faced by the LGBTQIA community.

Land Acknowledgement

Grand Rapids Specialty Therapy wants to acknowledge the People of the Three Fires: the Ojibwe, Odawa, and Potawatomi peoples on whose land we live and work. The Three Fires People are indigenous to this land. We acknowledge our physical location is built on stolen, native land. We are therefore guests on this land. We acknowledge the histories and traditions of the people who originated here first and who are STILL here. We make this land acknowledgment as an important first step. Grand Rapids Specialty Therapy knows that we need to always engage in the important work of social justice by taking continual steps to learn, honor indigenous individuals and groups, and honor the land where we do our work.
