Lacey Smith, LMSW
Pronouns: She/ Her/ Hers
Lacey is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker in Michigan and Illinois. She received her Bachelor of Social Work degree from Anderson University and Master of Social Work degree from the University of Pennsylvania. She began her career in social work, where she developed an appreciation for the resilience and beauty of each person and a determination not to accept the limiting systems in which we live. Moving into private practice has allowed Lacey to be more imaginative and collaborative in meeting people where they are. She believes that wellness is grounded in self care, respect, and compassion, which creates the foundation for her therapeutic approach. Lacey partners with people to be curious about the systems in which they live and be proactive about pursuing growth and alignment with self. She joins with people's inner healing wisdom and offers her presence as one of perspective, non-judgement, helpful challenge, and accountability to create a space that facilitates change.
Lacey takes an eclectic approach that utilizes Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Emotionally Focused Therapy and Psychedelic Assisted Psychotherapy and Integration working with individuals experiencing anxiety, depression, relationship concerns, and life transitions. She has special interest in working with women who are navigating identity shifts such as entering into parenthood, career alignment, transition into perimenopause and menopause, and finding self in their relationships. Inspired by my upbringing of living overseas in Prague, Czech Republic during adolescence, Lacey works with individuals navigating multicultural issues of first and second generation immigration dynamics and third culture identities. She also supports individuals undergoing faith deconstruction to gently unpack beliefs that no longer align with their lived experience and discover core values and a more authentic path forward.
Lacey recognizes the value and significance of spirituality, embodiment, plant medicine, ancestral wisdom, connection with nature and other non western modalities of growth and healing and acknowledges that the deep wisdom of many of these practices have been de-emphasized, discredited, and also co-opted by colonialism and capitalism. It is her desire to respectfully honor and reattune to the wisdom of our bodies, the land, and our ancestors to shift the pathology off the individual and onto the systemic and colonial structures that create much of the mental health struggles today. She commits herself to engaging in continuous self-reflection and education into her areas of privilege and strives to create safe, anti-racist, queer-aligned spaces in which clients can feel safe and expressive without judgement.
