Katie Hurnwell

Pronouns: She/ Her/ Hers

My areas of experience include LGBTQIA+ concerns, grief and loss (including death and dying), relationships and family dynamics, couples work, anxiety, depression, religious trauma, and neurodivergence. I recognize that therapy is not one-size-fits-all. Your experiences, values, and context shape how you understand and navigate the world, and your therapeutic experience will be carefully tailored to you. As your therapist, my goal is to create a supportive, affirming space where you feel safe to show up as your authentic self. Together, we will explore how your experiences have influenced your beliefs and behaviors, identify patterns that may no longer serve you, and work toward greater clarity and meaningful change.

I am currently completing my master’s-level clinical training at Western
Michigan University. I bring a wide range of professional and lived
experiences that shape my perspective as a therapist. My background includes work within the family court system and as an educator in Chicago Public Schools. I am also an ordained Minister of Word and Sacrament and have served both large and small congregations. Although I am no longer engaged in congregational ministry, this experience has shaped my understanding of how relational systems—including families, institutions, and religious communities—can both offer care and cause harm.

I offer cash pay sessions at a discounted rate of $40 50-minute individual, couple & relational family sessions. While completing my degree, I am under the clinical supervision of Hannah Sullivan, LMSW, LMFT.
